Requirements For Membership
Beginning Band (Music
Level 1.0 - 1.5)
Membership is open to all students with no previous band experience. Each student
must have an instrument, class method books, materials for class and a desire to learn. Much emphasis is placed on tone
production, technique development, sight reading, basic fundamentals, and individual practice. Successful students will perform
with the Concert Band in the Winter Concert, school assemblies and Festival competitions.
Concert Band (Music Level
1.5 - 2.0)
Membership is open to students who have successfully completed the minimum requirements
for the Beginning Band program. Continued emphasis on foundational development, intonation, balance and blend concepts,
and strengthening the individual performer will be our major focus. Students will participate in District and Statewide competitions,
all band performances and events.
Symphonic
Band (Music
Level 2.0 - 2.5)
Membership is open to all students successfully completing two years of band. The
Symphonic Band is our primary performing ensemble. For this reason, all performances and rehearsals are required. Advanced
level concepts concerning reading, scales and fundamentals, alternate fingering, embellishments, ensemble and individual playing,
as well as technique development is our major concern.
Advanced Symphonic Band (Music
Level 2.5 - 3.0)
This band consist of the top musicians in our music department. Membership
is open to students successfully completing the First and Second year band programs. Membership is
through audition. Students will perform Allstate Level requirements on scales, rudiments, sight-reading, terminology,
and individual solo. This band will represent The W. G. Sanders Middle School Band Program in District and State Concert
Band festivals and competitions.
The W. G. Sanders Marching Band
The Marching Band is a non-competition band consisting of 72 members, and
is voluntary for all students in the program who has completed their first level band class. The band students are primarily
7th and 8th graders with exceptions for outstanding first year students. The band performs at school football games, parades,
pep rallies, and other area functions. The band has two auxillary units, the Majorettes and Color Guards.
The Al McClain Jazz Ensemble
The jazz ensemble is a small group consisting of no more
than 28 members. Alto sax (4), tenor sax (2), baritone sax (1), trumpet (6), trombone (5), keyboard (1), electric bass
(1), electric guitar (1), drum set (1), and percussionist (1), plus male and female vocalist. The Jazz Ensemble performs at
concerts and school assemblies.
