Requirements For Membership

Beginning Band (Music Level 1.0 - 1.5)

Membership is open to all students with no previous band experience. Each student must have an instrument, class method books,  materials for class and a desire to learn. Much emphasis is placed on tone production, technique development, sight reading, basic fundamentals, and individual practice. Successful students will perform with the Concert Band in the Winter Concert, school assemblies and Festival competitions.

Concert Band (Music Level 1.5 - 2.0)

Membership is open to students who have successfully completed the minimum requirements for the Beginning Band program. Continued emphasis on foundational development, intonation, balance and blend concepts, and strengthening the individual performer will be our major focus. Students will participate in District and Statewide competitions, all band performances and events.

Symphonic Band (Music Level 2.0 - 2.5)

Membership is open to all students successfully completing two years of band. The Symphonic Band is our primary performing ensemble.  For this reason, all performances and rehearsals are required. Advanced level concepts concerning reading, scales and fundamentals, alternate fingering, embellishments, ensemble and individual playing, as well as technique development is our major concern.

Advanced Symphonic Band (Music Level 2.5 - 3.0)

This band consist of the top musicians in our music department.  Membership is open to students successfully completing the First and Second year band programs. Membership is through audition.  Students will perform Allstate Level requirements on scales, rudiments, sight-reading, terminology, and individual solo. This band will represent The W. G. Sanders Middle School Band Program in District and State Concert Band festivals and competitions.

The Marching Band is a non-competition band consisting of 72 members, and is voluntary for all students in the program who has completed their first level band class.
